HOW MUCH DOES A MOTORBIKE HOLIDAY COST IN IRELAND?

Last updated on November 10, 2024

The short answer: “It depends!”

“Yes on what?” That’s what this article is about.

I’ll tell you what items come together and what amounts you can roughly estimate for them. So let’s start straight away:

The travel scenario

I’m assuming that, like so many of our customers, you will arrive by plane and rent a motorbike from our (update: former) motorbike rental company or another rental company near Dublin.

Most of our clients travel by motorbike for between one and two weeks, doing half the island (1 week), the Wild Atlantic Way (10 days), or the whole island (2 weeks). For the purposes of this example, let’s assume that the Wild Atlantic Way is a very typical scenario.

For the overnight stays, let’s assume the typical Irish B&B. Some customers go camping, others do home stays and hostels and others treat themselves to more expensive hotels. The B&B is about in the middle.

The last night in Dublin is also allowed: Strolling, souvenir shopping, sightseeing or life music, so we plan for a slightly more expensive overnight stay in the metropolis of Dublin.

Many customers come as a small group, then there are couples in pairs or alone on the motorbike and then many single riders. Let’s take the couple on the motorbike.

Which motorbike? The F700GS would be cheaper, the newer F750GS would be more expensive and the F800GS is in between – we’ll take the latter for this example.

What about eating and drinking on the road? At the B&B, a sumptuous Irish breakfast is usually included. A light meal on the road at lunchtime and a heartier meal in the pub restaurant in the evening, plus a couple of drinks each – I think that’s realistic for most.

Petrol: I know roughly the average consumption, but what petrol price do we want to assume – I’m making an assumption for 2023.

Miscellaneous: Entrance fees and sightseeing for example -again, I’m just making an assumption.

Sample calculation:

You can use the following calculation example as a template and adapt and add to it as you wish:

Conclusion

This makes it clear that Ireland is not a cheap destination, and neither is riding a motorbike.

Is anyone surprised now?

I think you can assume similar travel costs for most northern and western European countries.

Of course, this is just a calculation example and therefore only one of several possible scenarios.

It can be considerably more expensive and it can also be cheaper, depending on your choice of accommodation and, of course, your choice of motorbike. But food and drink and other activities also come into play.

Now you can make your own table and put together your own cost items – where will you end up in terms of price? This will then be your travel budget for Ireland.

I wish you lots of fun and interesting travel planning – and of course a great motorbike trip in Ireland.
