Intro

You’ll realise that at the latest when you try to follow your adolescent kids in the treetops!

But even without kids, a high ropes course is a lot of fun and a great addition to the gym, yoga or jogging.

Why? Because when you’re climbing, you’re doing a lot of complex movements that use muscles you didn’t even know you had before.

I tried it several times (a few years ago) and wondered afterwards where you can get sore muscles everywhere…..

But even without any fitness ambitions, a visit to a climbing forest will add a lot of zest to your holiday: as you zipline through the forest and over the stream, you’ll be laughing a lot – guaranteed!

This trend has also taken hold in the forests on the island of Ireland. There are some great zipline and treetop adventure forest parks waiting for you to discover them.

I’m from Germany, but I’ve been living in Ireland with my family (second home) for some time now. In summer we run our motorbike rental business here, south of Dublin (https://www.easycruiser.tours) and also offer nice guest rooms. We have travelled the island many times and therefore know it very well.

Below are a few climbing forest tips for your holiday planning. In this article, we will mainly look at natural climbing parks in forests where not only children but also adults can let off steam. I have not listed pure children’s fun parks here, of which there are many on the island.

So, let`s get into the trees:

Zipit Forest Adventures at Tibradden Wood

Zipit builds its climbing parks in very beautiful Coillte Forest parks and takes care to treat nature and the trees on which the climbing structures are placed as gently as possible. There are three sites. Tibradden Wood is a pine forest on the southern edge of Dublin, in the Dublin Mountains. See: https://zipit.ie/locations/tibradden-wood/park-info/.

Zipit Forest Adventures at Farran Forest Park

Farran Forest Park is located west of Cork, at Taiscumar Reservoir / Inniscarra Lake. The 45 hectares of forest once belonged to a private estate and also contains a deer enclosure and duck pond. The area around the lake is a very beautiful recreational area just outside Cork. See: https://zipit.ie/locations/farran-park/park-info/.

Zipit Forest Adventures at Lough Key Forest Park

Lough Key Forest Park is one of the most beautiful forest parks on the island of Ireland. It is not far from Carrick-on-Shannon and Boyle, and Sligo is not far away. It’s a friendly bright mixed forest right on the lake with other options for visitors such as bike hire or boat hire. See: https://zipit.ie/locations/lough-key/park-info/.

Castlecomer Discovery Park

Castlecomer is located west of Carlow and north of Kilkenny. The Discovery Park is a large outdoor adventure park with lots of attractions for all the family. But don’t worry, not only kids but also adults can let off steam here. There are also high ropes courses and the longest zipline in Ireland. Oakfire Adventures

Oakfire is located just outside Londonderry/Derry in Northern Ireland. Set in an oak forest, as the name suggests, there is a Zipline Trek across the River Faughan and a Tree Trek. If you still have energy afterwards, you can also try paintballing. See: https://oakfireadventures.com/full-aerial-challenge/.

Motorbike hire in Ireland

Todd’s Leap Outdoor Activity Centre

500 metres long and 50 metres above the ground – that’s the core data of the ziplines at Todd’s Leap in the middle of Northern Ireland. There is also off-road driving, archery and much more. Hve fun! See: https://toddsleap.com/activities/zip-lines/.

Conclusion

Get your Irish holiday going: Ziplines, forest parks and treetop adventures are guaranteed to be fun!

In this article, I’ve listed lots of great places to go in Ireland and Northern Ireland and written about the locations.

This will give you a good starting point for planning your holiday on the island. There are bound to be a few places on your route that you can integrate into your trip to Ireland.

Have fun in Ireland!
