Experience Wild Ireland: Survival Training and Bushcraft Camps

Everyday office life is too cosy and at the same time not challenging enough. Too many people live in cities, far away from nature.

The scout camp during school days is a long time ago, but the memories are still alive – why not do something like that again?

Why Bushcraft or Survival Training?

Survival training, isn’t that a bit exaggerated? No, because it’s not about fighting for your lunch with a knife in your teeth, but about learning skills to get along better in nature and with nature.

Nature awakens the senses! Learning more about nature helps us reconnect with the fauna and flora that surround us. We walk through the landscape with more alert eyes, seeing, feeling, smelling and tasting it more consciously.

Bushcraft or survival training also helps us to understand ourselves better, how do we react to exertion, cold, hunger or thirst?

I don’t have to light the barbecue at home with two sticks, I have a lighter! Yes, of course, we don’t need many outdoor skills at home, but it’s still a lot of fun to learn them!

And you don’t have to be a “tough dog” to take part in bushcraft survival training, because there are many organisations that offer training and camps for ordinary people.

Ireland is a very beautiful country for nature lovers. Here you will find beautiful and special landscapes, which are clearly different from those on the European continent. The flora is partly different and so is the fauna. So why not dive deeper into Irish nature?

By the way, I myself spend as much time as possible in the mountains and forests of the Wicklow Mountains. Originally from Germany, we have been living in Ireland for several years. In my spare time I like hiking. I also know a bit about bushcraft.

Instructors with military backgrounds and crisis experience – Survivalist Ireland’s Advanced Course promises tough days. This is not about bushcraft, it’s about survival! Pat Falfey

Pat Falvey is an Irish mountaineer, adventurer and book author. In the mountains of Killarney (southwest coast) he offers courses on trekking, mountaineering and camp/survival.
