MORE FUN ON HOLIDAY: OFF-ROAD DRIVING ON THE GREEN ISLAND

Last updated on May 15, 2024

It shakes, rattles and rumbles – no, off-roading is not for people who like it quiet and tranquil.
But how cool is it to be off-road?

Intro

Uphill, downhill, sliding around bends, through the dunes or along the beach – off-roading is simply fun!

If you feel the same way, I’ve got some great tips for you below that will add a lot of fun to your holiday. Most of the Irish tour operators use quads, but there are also other off-road vehicles.

By the way, we know the island very well. Although we are originally from Germany, we have been living in Ireland for several years (second home) and have travelled the island many times in all directions.

In summer we run our motorbike rental business here, south of Dublin (https://www.easycruiser.tours) and also offer guest rooms.

I have ridden motorbikes, land rovers, quads and ATVs off-road myself, so I know the subject well.

Let’s move on to my tips for your off-road experience on the Emerald Isle:

Quadventure

The Quadventure site is located in the South East, near New Ross or Wexford. It covers 80 acres, which is about 15 hectares – a large area. The beautiful Blackstairs Mountains can be seen in the background. There are more difficult routes or easier ones, so everyone from beginners to advanced quad riders will get their money’s worth. See: https://www.quadventure.ie/quad-sessions/.

Aran Offroad Experience

On the Aran Islands off the coast of Galway, two brothers offer off-road driving in their Landrover. They will take you or a small group to particularly beautiful and remote corners of the island that can only be reached by off-road vehicle. See: https://www.aranoffroadexperience.ie.

Quad Bike Safari

This operator is located in the east of Cork, There is a 9 mile off road trek, which is about 16 kilometres. There are lots of quads, so small and large groups are no problem. The trail is in fields and woods with watercourses and even a castle on the way. See: http://www.quadbikesafari.ie.

Carrick Quads

100 acres of farmland with fields and woodland and well-equipped quads – here you can let off steam! Located near the town of Carrick-on-Shannon. And if you want, you can shoot clay pigeons here too. See: https://carrickquads.com.

Irish Country Quads

On the north-east coast of Ireland you will find this operator, not far from Dundalk. There is a quad parkour, and you can also shoot archery, air rifle or clay pigeons. See: https://irishcountryquads.com/quad-biking/.

Todds Leap Activity Centre

Todds Leap is an activity centre in the middle of Northern Ireland. There are lots of activities for adventurers young and old, as well as guided Landrover rides over an off-road track. See: https://toddsleap.com/activities/.

Conclusion

Who says holidays have to be boring? There are so many great activities you can incorporate into your Irish holiday.

An off-road experience is a lot of fun, even if you’ve never done it before. Don’t worry, because that’s how most participants feel and the organisers are set up for that. You will be shown everything and there are always guides looking after you.

The only thing you need to bring is a set of clothes that can get dirty – because that is part of the off-road experience!

Have fun in Ireland!
